The desk at the end of the week

Being a design student means we have multiple workspaces. The library, our bedroom floor, the living room, etc. But our main space would most probably be the desk in our room. I envy the student accommodation large desk space but a desk is a desk. Due to its small scale nature, it is also my vanity as pictured on the left. But it has absolutely everything I need and uses for my everyday tasks.

The picture on the left is how it ends up looking towards the end of the week and then I go through the whole cycle of making it clean and tidy.

A good start would be making a detailed inventory of all the items in this workspace.

Inventory List

  1. I have a lamp next to my desk which helps me do my work during late hours. and it’s warm so it’s not too harsh on the eyes either.
  2. Above my desk, I have a few paintings I’ve done that I still keep adding to. It helps me motivate myself every time I look at it.
  3. There's a small pink bottle of water that is kept specifically on my desk as I sometimes forget to keep hydrated when I am busy with work.
  4. All of my vanity products are on the little shelf on the top. There is also one of the workshop items that I now use as a little holder.
  5. Then comes all my notebooks which are usually stored in the pull-out shelf underneath but as the days go everything underneath ends up being on the tabletop.
  6. I have all of my stationery underneath. The ones that I use the most are kept on the shelf next to the notebooks.
  7. Below the pullout desk is an even smaller scale shelf which consists of stationery items I don’t use often as well as non-educational books I like to read from time to time.
  8. My desk chair has a plush cushion on it to help with backaches when I sit at my desk for too long. It also has my dressing gown on it as well for those cold days especially since we are slowly descending into the wintery months.
The desk at the start of the week

To others, this is just a workspace that looks very cluttered but to me, it is a space that represents how my mind works as the days go by. Almost like a routine that represents how I work. It’s an evident display of my design process.
