The Learning Curve — Accepting changes and more changes
The second week in and I am already quite immersed in this internship.
I started my week off with some revisions for the dental/derma clinic from last week. I was asked to work on the false ceiling layout. The proposed ceiling finish was Gypsum plasterboard, however, in the toilets, the moisture-resistant variety was used (which is more expensive). The heights of suspension 0f the gypsum plasterboard also varied. Especially at the windows to conceal the top portion blinds the ceiling level was 3000mm from FFL, and the area adjacent was at 2750mm. I learned how to represent this in technical drawings and the importance of levels in a ceiling layout
After the ceiling finishes revision, I moved on to lighting, cleaning up a few silly mistakes as well as learning about the distance between spotlights. I was told that the distance between spotlights has to be 1500 mm or more. Any less would be an overburn. In between these revisions, I attended a meeting with the dental chair supplier in regards to how the electrical would work and what the requirements or changes would be to use the chair.
The chair required a floor box right below it as well as a socket that needs to be on the wall and that would be responsible for all the suction, air, vacuum, etc. They also mentioned the head of the chair would need to face away from the door in order to maintain some privacy. This was quite an insightful meeting.
One thing I forgot to keep in mind when I submitted the revised ceiling finish drawing was to align the cove lights in the center of the room. It slipped my mind. So I will be making the necessary changes next week.
To end off the week, the senior interior designer has currently left to work remotely for a month so he has prepared me and the other intern a task list of things to do/ finish while he’s away so we’ve got a busy month ahead as well as new projects.
